Shahid Kapoor was born on February 25th, 1981 in Mumbai, India. Born to actor Pankaj Kapoor and actress / classical dancer Neelima Azeem, Kapoor's parents divorced when he was three years old. After the divorce of his parents, he usually lived with his mother whilst he also shared a good relationship with his father and stepmother Supriya Pathak. He studied at the Gyan Bharati in the initial phase of his career and later he studied at the Rajhans Vidhyalaya at Mumbai. Kapoor, who is a vegetarian, also has a sister named Sana and a brother named Ishaan Kapoor; his brother acted with him in the movie Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi (2005). His maternal grandfather was Anwar Azeem, a noted Marxist journalist and author from Bihar.

Shikhar, in which he worked with Ajay Devgan, earned him a Star Screen awards nomination for Best Actor. In 2006 Shahid moved away from romantic comedies when he played Raj Malhotra in the murder mystery 36 China Town and played Jeetu in Priyadarshan’s comedy Chup Chup Ke, both falling into the average-success category. Vivah, a drama of love, was a blockbuster and a high grosser, his performance as Prem widely appreciated. During the summer of 2006, baby face Shahid Kapoor embarked on his first world tour, the Rockstars Concert, along with famous Bollywood stars, Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, John Abraham, Esha Deol, Mallika Sherawat and Zayed Khan.
